IDENTITY ISN’T FOUND.
IT GETS INTERROGATED, THEN DESIGNED ON PURPOSE.
✺ THE SEVERAL OF YOU
s01
INTERNAL IDENTITY
The engine: drivers, values, fears, appetites, contradictions, and the desires you’d edit out of an interview. Not a fixed core. A moving conglomeration. Anyone claiming to have located your one true self has sold you a simplification you’ll be paying off for years.
EXTERNAL IDENTITY
The version of you living rent-free in other people’s heads. How you’re introduced, what you’re assumed to be good at, what gets attributed to you, and what you’re never asked about.
Two of them are load-bearing, and traffic runs both ways between them. There are others — the ones worn for particular rooms, particular audiences, particular years of your life — but these are where the work starts. Build one and ignore the other and you get one of two failures: immaculate internal clarity nobody can perceive, or a beautifully packaged surface that collapses the moment someone asks a second question.
✺ THE DIALECTIC IDENTITY METHOD
s02
Dialectic, because nothing here gets established by asking you. Something gets asserted, something resists it, and whatever’s still standing afterwards is the part worth building on.

0 — THE VEHICLE
Before anything can collide it needs a world to collide with. The material conditions: what you’re actually attached to — a company, a body of work, a catalogue, an institution — and what it is and isn’t. The incentives you’re sitting inside. Your legitimacy lines. The territory you could credibly hold opinions on beyond the thing you’re already known for. Plus the room list — whichever rooms matter in your world — and which of them you’re in now versus earning.
1 — THE SELF
The first claim. Who you are, what drives you, what you refuse to become, what you want with the politeness stripped off. Produces the signature story bank: six to twelve stories that prove credibility, motive, scar and edge. Plus your personal red lines.
2 — THE WORLD
The resistance. Who holds power in your world — an industry, a market, a scene, an institution — which incentives warp reality inside it, which myths everyone is expected to repeat, and which of your assumptions get punished. Naïve self-stories get refined here or they die here. Output: the enemy list — assumptions, not people — and the permission ladder.
3 — THE SYNTHESIS
What survives the collision, and what gets deliberately killed off. We name the core contradictions, pick a master throughline in one sentence, lock first-wave positioning that’s credible and usable now without becoming a cage, and build the system that keeps running after I’ve gone.
✺ THE IDENTITY BIBLE
s03
PHOTOGRAPHED IDENTITY BIBLE SPREAD
THE DELIVERABLE
i. Core identity statement — who you are in the world
ii. Three to five positioning pillars
iii. The enemies: assumptions you’re at war with
iv. Proof assets — stories, credentials, intellectual anchors
v. Voice rules, including what you refuse to sound like
vi. Ethics and red lines, personal and company
vii. Persona rules by room
viii. Visual and environmental signals
ix. The editorial operating system — content territories, a hook system, a twelve-month permission ladder
x. The contradiction playbook
Then ninety days of advisory while it goes into the world — the first conversation where you use the new language and watch it land, the first time you have to hold the position under pressure, the first time someone attacks it in public.
✺ WHAT YOU ACTUALLY GET
s04
It depends — on you, and on what you’re building. I’d distrust anyone who told you otherwise. Whether you run a company, sit on boards, make work for an audience, or lead an organisation, what we build gets decided by the same three things.
VISIBILITY — precise to broad
How much of this is for four people in a room and how much is for a public. The answer changes what gets built more than anything else.
THINKING — applied to philosophical
Whether you need positions that carry what you already do, or a body of thought that earns you the right to do something else entirely.
AMBITION — stated to unspeakable
What you’re willing to say you want. The gap between the stated version and the real one is usually where the work is.
Or something nobody could have named at the start. Several engagements produced exactly that, because the second session revealed the real problem was somewhere else entirely.
✺ THE REFUSALS
s05
Six things I won’t do, and won’t pretend to.
NONE OF THIS.

There’s nothing in there to find.
There’s no core self under the noise waiting for the right question to unearth it. No fully-downloaded human-being arriving once you’ve collected enough books, information and credentials.
Everyone’s performing. Always.
A performance with excellent PR. Everyone’s performing, always — “just be yourself” is advice that rewards whoever happened to inherit the most useful self. The honest question is whether you wrote the part or were handed it.
New surface, same unresolved thing underneath.
Changing the surface of an unresolved identity. Expensive, extremely visible, undone within eighteen months.
UNIVERSAL FRAMEWORKS
If it fits everyone, it describes no one.
Build a big enough glove and everything fits. That’s a fact about the glove.
THE HABIT GOSPEL
Leaders are built, not accrued.
The notion that leaders get assembled out of morning routines and cold plunges. Leaders are constructed like pyramids, not accrued like compound interest. Habit incarnates the past and then calls it your future.
SERVICE PROVISION
Execution in an advisor’s coat.
Most of what’s sold as personal branding is execution wearing an advisor’s coat — logos, decks, a posting schedule, an invoice. I’m of service, which is a different job. You’ll feel the difference in the first session, mostly as friction.
Therapy? No. It has none of the safety and all of the argument. And you won’t find the method in a book — I built it after the existing ones failed on me.
